Japanese Youth Delegation Dispatched to Pohnpei

 

 

 

A delegation of students and chaperones of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for
Students and Youths Program (JENESYS) from Japan visited Pohnpei on May 2, 2012 and

A delegation of students and chaperones of the Japan-East Asia Network of Exchange for Students and Youths Program (JENESYS) from Japan visited Pohnpei on May 2, 2012 and departed on May 10, 2012. They paid visits to various places during their stay in Pohnpei. They paid a courtesy call to President Mori in his office and Ambassador Suzuki at the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.

 

They ventured the College of Micronesia National Campus to visit the Japanese Language class, and also experienced local homes when they visited homes of some of the Japanese Language students.

 

The group observed activities of JICA volunteers in the Pohnpei public schools, and took toursvisiting some famous sites on Pohnpei. They also visited the public dump site and recycling center operated by Kolonia town which have been installed with aluminum-can disposal equipment that were granted by the Japan Government Grassroots Projects.

Finally, the group concluded their visit with an evening reception and a meeting hosted by the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.

 

The program is expected to deepen mutual understanding among young people who will assume important roles in the next generation in each East Asian country.

 

The JENESYS Program is a 35-billion-yen youth exchange program, which was announced at the Second East Asia Summit (EAS) in 2007. It pertains mainly to young people from EAS member states with a few to establishing a basis of Asia’s stalwart solidarity by expanding youth exchange.
