Parliamentary Delegation of the House of Councilors of Japan Visited Pohnpei

     From December 18th to 21st , Parliamentary Delegation of the House of Councilors visited Pohnpei to research Japan’s Official Development Assistance (ODA). The delegation consists of 4 members; Mr. Kiyomi AKAISHI, the leader of the delegation, Liberal Democratic Party, Mr. Masahiro ISHII, Liberal Democratic Party, Mr. Hiroyuki NAGAHAMA, Democratic Party and the Shin-Ryokufukai and Mr. Kotaro TATSUMI,Japanese Communist Party. They made visits to project sites of Japan’s ODA: Pohnpei State Hospital, Pohnpei International Airport, Dump Site, two of the cargo and passenger vessels, solar panels at the President Office and Pohnpei State Hospital They enthusiastically exchanged views with JICA volunteers.
 
     They paid a courtesy call on FSM National and State officials, President Christian and had a meeting with Secretary Robert and Secretary Weilbacher. They also paid a courtesy call on Vice Speaker Martin, Sen. Urusemal and Sen. Perman at National Congress. The delegation members received very warm welcome traditional shell necklaces as a present and great appreciation toward the Japan’s ODA. They also visited a war memorial and offered flowers to the fallen soldiers.
 
     On the last day, the delegation was invited to Ant Atoll by President Christian. President had arrived Ant Atoll before they arrived and gave them a surprise by showing fish caught by his own hand, President himself caught earlier. President made sashimi and grilled fish in foil and served to the delegation. They were deeply impressed by President’s performance and hospitality.
 
     Ambassador Sakai hosted the receptions on 18th and 19th by inviting the delegation to his residence:. President Christian, Secretary Robert and Sen. Urusemal on the 18th, and so were JICA Volunteers on the 19th. The delegation exchanged opinions with attendants and had fruitful discussions.
