Exchange of Opinions with a Japanese NPO Director and the Pacific Community Micronesia Regional Representative

On September 8, Ambassador KAGOMIYA held a meeting with Mr. Junichi OMAE, Director of Japan’s NPO ECOPLUS. ECOPLUS has been practicing eco-tourism every year in Yap State of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) for the past 35 years. Director OMAE talked about the status of their eco-tourism activities and also about a project utilizing an “artificial wetland” set up a year and a half ago for wastewater purification.
 
Also, on September 9, Ambassador KAGOMIYA and his wife, together with Director OMAE, visited the home of Willy KOSTKA, Micronesia Regional Director of the Pacific Community (SPC). Mr. Kostka has long been engaged in environmental protection and cultural preservation in the Micronesia region. While serving traditional dishes from Pohnpei State, he talked about how this year's weather has been unusual due to the El Niño phenomenon and also about the importance of resource management.
 
Ambassador KAGOMIYA expresses his deep respect for the high aspirations of these outstanding people from Japan and the FSM and believes that exchanges and cooperation of these people are very important for the friendship between the two countries.
