Attendance at the Micronesian Islands Forum

On August 19, Ambassador Kagomiya attended the opening session and related events of the 28th Micronesian Islands Forum (MIF) held between August 17 – 21 in Pohnpei as a special observer.
Members of MIF consist of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), the Republic of Palau, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Naoero, the U.S. Territory of Guam, the U.S. Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, and the four States of the FSM (Yap State, Chuuk State, Pohnpei State, and Kosrae State). The 28th MIF was held under the theme “Promote Healthy Communities, Open Doors to Learning,” where Governor Joseph of Pohnpei State chaired the forum, with the attendance of Vice President Palik of the FSM, President Whipps of the Republic of Palau, President Heine of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Governors of the States of the FSM, and others. Various topics were actively discussed in the plenary and committee meetings, including in the field of health, education, climate change, energy, connectivity in the region, and cooperation towards the Pacific Islands Forum (PIF), and a communiqué was adopted.
The 29th MIF will be held next year in Kosrae State of the FSM.
