State Minister HORII attended the Handover Ceremony for the Equipment for Repairing Roads in Sokehs, Pohnpei State

On August 10, with the attendance of Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, who was visiting the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), the handover ceremony for the Project for the Procurement of Equipment for Repairing Secondary Roads in Sokehs, Pohnpei State, under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Project was held at the Sokehs Municipal Government in Pohnpei State.
Through this project, the Government of Japan provided Sokehs Municipality with an excavator and a set of tools to support the repair and maintenance of roads that are vital to the people of Sokehs, including secondary coral roads. The improved road conditions are expected to make daily commuting easier, facilitate the transportation of goods, and improve access to essential services, including healthcare and education, for residents of Sokehs Municipality.
In his remarks, Mr. HORII Iwao, State Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, expressed his appreciation to the Sokehs Municipal Government and everyone who contributed to completing this project. He also stated that the equipment will support its sustainable development and improve the lives of its people for many years to come. State Minister HORII added that he looks forward to further strengthening the relations.
Acting Governor Herolyn S. MOVICK of Pohnpei State described the project as a symbol of longstanding friendship and continued cooperation between Japan and Pohnpei State, expressing her gratitude for Japan’s unwavering friendship and support. She also expressed her hope that this strong relationship will continue for many years to come.
Mr. Stanley R. ERNEST, Chief Magistrate of Sokehs Municipal Government, expressed his appreciation to Japan’s generous support and continued assistance to Sokehs. He said that the newly provided excavator would be used to repair as many roads as possible in Sokehs Municipality, and that the project would be carried out in cooperation with the Pohnpei State Government to help ensure the safety and well-being of local residents.
The event was witnessed by Mr. Aisek ARTUI, Member of the Pohnpei State Legislature, H.E. John FRITZ, Ambassador of the FSM to Japan, officials from the Pohnpei State Government, Councilmembers and officials of Sokehs Municipal Government, the delegation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, Ambassador Kagomiya, and staffs of the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.
