On June 12, Ambassador Kagomiya paid a courtesy call on T.H. Florian Yatilman, Secretary of the Department of Environment, Climate Change and Emergency Management (DECEM) who assumed office on May 20.
Secretary Yatilman, whose father was the former Secretary of the DECEM, expressed gratitude for Japan’s assistances to the FSM. Ambassador and the Secretary exchanged views on responses to the damage in Chuuk State caused by the Typhoon Sinlaku in April.
Ambassador sincerely congratulated the Secretary on his appointment and explained Japan's assistance for oil spills from sunken ships in Chuuk State and the water supply projects currently being implemented in Yap, Chuuk, and Pohnpei States in cooperation with IOM and UNICEF, and stated that Japan would continue to support the FSM.
