2026/4/28
On April 21, Ambassador Kagomiya attended the handover ceremony for the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) State Legislature Website Project, which is part of the Strengthening Legislatures’ Capacity in Pacific Islands Countries Phase II (SLIP2) project implemented by United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with the financial support from Japan.
This project supports the State Legislatures of the FSM and the National Congress of Palau in strengthening citizen participation and access to information through the creation of new websites.
Ambassador Kagomiya expressed his sincere appreciation to the UNDP for its continued support, stating that Japan shares common values including democracy, rule of law, human rights, and maritime security with the Pacific Island Countries and continue to support these countries.
Ms. Gulbahor Nematova, Deputy Resident Representative for the North Pacific Office of the UNDP and Mr. Douglas Marar, Chief of Staff for the Chuuk State Legislature, stated the importance of digital access to the legislature and expressed gratitude for Japan's support.
At the end of the ceremony, as part of the effort to promote Japanese cuisine, Japanese sweets made with “matcha” and “mochi” by the embassy's chef were served, and participants enjoyed the Japanese sweets.
