The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) of the Government of Japan offers scholarships to international students who wish to study at Japanese universities and higher education institutions.

- Academic Year: Starting April 2027
- Major of study: No restrictions, in principle.
- Duration of Scholarship
- Undergraduate Program: 4 years (6 years for medical students)
- National Institute of Technology (KOSEN) Program: 3 years
- Specialized Training College Program: 2 years
- Research Program (Graduate Level): 2 years
- 1-year Japanese language program provied prior to start of program, if necessary. (6-month program for Research students)
- Financial support: Tuition (including duration of Japanese language program), living allowance, travel expenses (initial flight from FSM to Japan, and return flight from Japan to FSM) covered.

- Application Deadline: Friday, June 26, 2026 by 5pm
- Examination and Interviews: Thursday, July 9, and Friday, July 10, 2026 *Selected applicants will be informed individually.
- Place: Embassy of Japan, One World Plaza 2nd Floor
【Contents of Examination】
- Japanese language proficiency
- English language proficiency
- Mathematics (except Research students)
- Chemistry, Physics, and/or Biology (for applicable students applying for the Undergraduate or National Institute of Technology Programs)
