Handover Ceremony for the Project to Improve the Capacity of COM Fisheries Maritime Institute

On March 3, Ambassador Kagomiya, who is visiting Yap State, attended the handover ceremony for the Project to Improve the Capacity of the College of Micronesia’s (COM) Fisheries Maritime Institute (FSM-FMI). Through this grant aid project, the Government of Japan constructed additional classroom and dormitory facilities. The handover ceremony was attended by Vice President Palik and Second Lady Palik, Governor Itimai, Senator Choor, Senator Yatilman, Australian Ambassador Grant, COM President Koroivulaono, COM Vice President Young-Uhk, COM Regent Mitagyow, and traditional leaders of Yap State.
 
In his remarks, Ambassador Kagomiya stated that this project provides an opportunity to reaffirm the enduring friendship and cooperation between Japan and the FSM, and together with the technical assistance provided through the dispatch of a Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) expert and the procurement of a training vessel, is expected to complement the improving of FSM-FMI’s capacity.
 
Vice President Palik, Governor Itimai, COM President Koroivulaono, and COM Regent Mitagyow expressed their appreciation towards Japan’s assistance and stated that this project contributes to improving the capacity of FSM-FMI and strengthens the “Kizuna (bond)” between the FSM and Japan.
 
Ambassador Kagomiya sincerely hopes that these newly built classrooms and dormitory will be utilized to their full capacity for a long time.
