Closing Ceremony of the Japan Coast Guard Mobile Corporation Team (MCT) Training

2026/3/11
On February 23, Ambassador Kagomiya attended the closing ceremony and reception of the capacity-building support training by the Japan Coast Guard Mobile Corporation Team (MCT), through the framework of the Sasakawa Peace Foundation, Japan.

The MCT team was established in 2017, dedicated to capacity-building support for overseas maritime security agencies. It conducted training in the field of search and rescue—such as first aid at sea and towing disabled vessels—for the Maritime Wing, the maritime security agency of the Federated States of Micronesia, from February 16 to 24, in Pohnpei State. On the 20th, an exercise assuming an actual accident at sea was carried out, which Ambassador Kagomiya observed.

At the closing ceremony, certificates of completion were awarded by the MCT to the trainees of the Maritime Wing. Ambassador Kagomiya, in his speech, spoke about the importance of daily training and, noting the participation of the first observers from Palau and the Marshall Islands, referred to the significance of cooperation between Japan and the Micronesia region, which has historical ties with Japan.
