Handover Ceremony for The Project for Construction of Gymnasium at Saladak Elementary School in Pohnpei State

On February 24, 2026, Ambassador Kagomiya participated in the handover ceremony for the construction of the gymnasium at Saladak Elementary School in U Municipality, Pohnpei State.
This project, aided by the Government of Japan, constructed a new multi-purpose gymnasium which will be used for sports, physical education, gatherings, community events, and act as a shelter during natural disasters.
The Honorable Esmond B. Moses, Speaker of the 24th FSM Congress, The Honorable Ricky F. Cantero, Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the FSM, The Honorable Stevenson A. Joseph, Governor of Pohnpei State, the traditional leaders, national and state government officials, and members of U Municipality attended the ceremony. The traditional Sakau Ceremony was also performed during the ceremony.
Ambassador Kagomiya extended his sincere gratitude to the warm welcome by the U Municipality. In his remarks, he stated that this gymnasium is a facility necessary for a vibrant school life, empowering youth in both physical and mental well-being, shaping values, and building a broad perspective through various school activities and then nurturing future leaders of the country. Ambassador also emphasized that Japan stands strong to continue working with the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to promote education, health, human development, and human security.
Governor Joseph expressed his gratitude to the government and the people of Japan, and ensured that students, school staffs and the community from U Municipality will be mindful of regular maintenance of the facility.
After the ribbon cutting, students and the members from U Municipality played basketball at the gymnasium while Ambassador Kagomiya, the government officials, and the traditional leaders observed.
