Social Gathering with Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV)

2026/2/10
On January 30, Ambassador Kagomiya invited twenty JOCV volunteers active in the four states (Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae) of the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) to the Ambassador’s official residence and held a social gathering.

At the social gathering, after the introduction on the history of JOCV activities in the FSM by Mr. Watanabe, Resident Representative of the JICA Micronesia Office, the volunteers reported on the content of their activities and the difficulties at their respective posts, providing an opportunity for each participant to gain new discoveries and insights into differences in culture and environment among the states.

In response to each activity report, Ambassador Kagomiya offered comments on JOCV activities that he had seen and heard at various places and stated his impressions from when he visited each state, encouraged each volunteer, and expressed his expectations for their further success.
