Ambassador Kagomiya’s Visit to Chuuk State

From January 27-30, Ambassador Kagomiya and Mrs. Kagomiya made an official visit to Chuuk State. During their visit on January 28, Ambassador Kagomiya called on T.H. Alexander Narruhn, Governor of Chuuk State, T.H. Arno H. Kony, President of the Chuuk House of Senate, and T.H. Lester D. Mersai, Speaker of the Chuuk House of Representatives. During the courtesy calls, Ambassador Kagomiya discussed the friendly relations between Japan and Chuuk State looking forward to further collaborations.
On January 28, Ambassador Kagomiya met with Mr. Bradford Mori, Director of Chuuk Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to discuss the emergency assistance that the Government of Japan will provide to Chuuk in response to the damages caused by the oil leak.
Ambassador Kagomiya also visited the Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) office and received an update from Mr. Tetsuya Uchiyama, Resident Representative, on the project for collecting oil from sunken wartime ships in Chuuk Lagoon for the purpose of environmental protection, as well as observed the collection methods of oil from the ships.
Ambassador Kagomiya then visited the Chuuk Women's Council, where he was briefed on the council's activities, including measures against domestic violence and women's empowerment. The council’s building was previously constructed with the support of the Government of Japan.
On January 29, Ambassador Kagomiya visited the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Chuuk Office and exchanged views on the project to enhance water security in the FSM, funded by the Government of Japan and implemented by IOM and the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF).
Ambassador and Mrs. Kagomiya also visited the monument erected in memory of the war dead to pray for those who perished during the war in Chuuk (Truk island).
