UN Human Rights Workshop and Courtesy Call by UN Regional Human Rights Representative

On November 17, 2025, Ambassador Kagomiya attended the opening ceremony of the UN Human Rights Council’s Workshop (November 17–20, 2025) for the Pacific Region which was held at the National Convention Center in Palikir, Pohnpei.
The theme of the workshop is assessing the training and capacity building activities so far to identify achievements and areas of improvement. The delegates from the Pacific Island Countries as well as the staffs of Office of the United Nations High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) attended the workshop.
The ceremony was addressed by H.E. Wesley W. Simina, President of FSM, as well as H.E. Jurg Lauber, the President of the UN Human Rights Council and Ms. Heike Alefsen, the Regional Representative of OHCHR.
Following the ceremony, on November 19, Ms. Heike Alefsen and Mr. Diego V. Neto, Human Rights Officer of Pacific Regional Office made a courtesy call on Ambassador Kagomiya at the Embassy of Japan.
Ms. Heike Alefsen emphasized the importance of the collaboration and engagement of all the regional actors for the work on Human Rights in the Pacific region.
Ambassador Kagomiya expressed his deep appreciation for the firm commitment and tireless efforts of the human rights officers in the Pacific Region and conveyed his hope for continued collaboration with Human Rights Council.
