2025/9/22

On September 3, 2025, Ambassador Kagomiya participated in an online Workshop for Chuuk State legislators held as part of the Strengthening Legislatures' Capacity in Pacific Islands Countries (SLIP) project. SLIP is a project launched in 2018 through collaboration between Japan and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in six Pacific Island countries, including the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM). In FSM, ICT equipment was provided to the legislature to enable them to hold online sessions and strengthen legislature functions, even during the COVID-19 pandemic. Phase 2 started in 2025, aiming to further enhance the capacity of the legislature and the building of trust with citizens.
In his remarks, the Ambassador noted the longstanding relations between Japan and the FSM and stated that Japan shares common values such as democracy and the rule of law with Chuuk State and the FSM, reaffirming Japan's belief that democracy is indispensable for sustainable development and progress. He stated that Japan will remain a steadfast partner to Chuuk State and to the FSM and to the Pacific region and expressed Japan's continuing cooperation to promote democracy and sustainable development.
