Sea Cucumber Processing Demonstration

On November 26, 2024, Ambassador Kagomiya attended the opening ceremony of sea cucumber processing demonstration held by College of Micronesia Land Grant Program in partnership with Pohnpei State Government.
The trainer was Mr. Masaya Miyazaki, an expert of sea cucumber processing from Ama-cho, a town in Okinoshima Island, western part of Japan.
When a FSM delegation including Mr. Mark Kostaka, Director for Resources and Development of Pohnpei State Government and Executive Director Stanley Lorennij as well as Dr. Manoj Nair of the Land Grant Program made site visits at Ama-cho, with the help of the Sakura Science Program of Japan Science and Technology Agency and the Land Grant Program, they met Mr. Miyazaki and invited him as a trainer to the FSM this time.
As a well processed sea cucumber may be priced dozens of times of raw one in the export market, Ambassador sincerely hopes future success of sea cucumber processing in the FSM.
Ambassador appreciates long years efforts by the Land Grant Program for farming sea cucumbers with the U.S. funding and hopes this training for processing sea cucumber help these efforts.
Governor Stevenson Joseph as well as US Chargé d'Affaires Vincent Mutt-Tracy also attended the ceremony.
