On July 30, Ambassador Kagomiya attended the handover ceremony for softball items by Makurazaki Marine Products Processing Industries Cooperative. At the ceremony, the cooperative donated softball items to the Department of Sports of the Pohnpei State. Mr. Ramsie Joab expressed their gratitude on behalf of the Pohnpei State.

Makurazaki is one of the most important fishing towns in Japan and producing much dried bonito,’’Katsuobushi’’ in Japanese, using bonito caught in the Northern Pacific Ocean including the FSM.

Using the residents of bonito and other fishes, the cooperative has been implementing “the Project to Circulate a New Pig Feed Produced from Processed Marine Products Residues in Micronesia” through JICA’s Technical Cooperation for Grassroots Projects (TCGP). The project aims to improve pig farmer living standards through the distribution of a new pig feed that uses locally produced fish meal with marine residues.

Ambassador Kagomiya expressed his hope that Pohnpei citizens will enjoy playing softballs by using the donated softball items and that the cooperative will succeed in its project. The ceremony was attended by Mr. Yamauchi, Director of JICA Micronesia, Mr. Mori, General Affairs Section Chief of Makurazaki Marine Products Processing Industries Cooperative, and Mr. Akinaga, President of the Pohnpei Baseball and Softball Association.
