Courtesy Call on the President and Secretary for Foreign Affairs by the President of JICA

On June 24, 2024, Dr. Akihiko Tanaka, the president of Japan International Cooperation Agency(JICA) and the Ambassador Kagomiya made a courtesy call on the President Simina and Secretary Robert for Foreign Affairs. This is the first visit of the president of JICA, the main engine of Japanese ODA implementation, to the FSM. Its activity in the FSM started in 1979, 35 years ago. It has made \34.6 billion of grant aid including improvement of Pohnpei International Airport, extension of Weno and Yap Harbor, and various projects on fisheries, agriculture, power plants, and road, etc. It has also provided various technical cooperation in the areas of energy, waste management, health, education and others. So far more than 450 JICA volunteers have been dispatched to the FSM in the area of education, health and medical care, energy, environment and others. JICA and the Embassy will continue and strengthen their efforts for cooperation and friendship with the FSM.
