Handover Ceremony for Pohnpei Emergency Operation Center (UNDP)

2023/9/25
On September 21, the Pohnpei Emergency Operation Center (PEOC) funded by Japan was handed over to Pohnpei state.

The provision of the PEOC is a part of the Enhancing Disaster and Climate Resilience (EDCR) project through the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), which Japan contributed US$7.4 million to implement since March 2019. The EDCR project aims to strengthen the FSM’s ability to respond to the impacts of natural and climate change-related disasters through disaster preparedness and infrastructure improvements. The PEOC is expected to play a central role as the command center for implementing emergency response and disaster operations.

The ceremony was attended by the Hon. Aren B. Palik, Vice President of the FSM, the Hon. Reed B. Oliver, Governor of Pohnpei State, H.E. Hisashi Michigami, Ambassador of Japan to the FSM, Mr. Jaap van Hierden, the UN Resident Coordinator, and Mr. Kevin Petrini, Deputy Resident Representative for the UNDP North Pacific Office.
