Grant Contract Signing Ceremony for The Project for Construction of Gymnasium at Saladak Elementary School, Pohnpei State

On 5th January, 2023, the signing ceremony for “The Project for Construction of Gymnasium at Saladak Elementary School, Pohnpei State” was held at the Embassy of Japan to provide Pohnpei State Department of Education, with the funds up to US$252,000 under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan.
This project will construct a new gymnasium at Saladak school where the students can have the physical education classes outside regardless of weather. Furthermore, it will be open for the community for meetings, exercise sessions, and evacuation area in times of emergencies.
Ambassador Michigami first expressed his pleasure for the appreciation for Japanese contribution and assistance to the FSM from President David Panuelo and many other people and he added that Japan will continue the cooperation between Japan and the FSM. He described the new project of Saladak Elementary School and how education is crucial for the young people for the future society. He hoped that this project would proceed smoothly to improve the infrastructure at the school and the social development in the community.
The Hon. Reed B. Oliver, Governor of Pohnpei State, expressed his appreciation to Ambassador Michigami and the Government of Japan for the continuous support and assistance for the FSM. He stated that this gymnasium can be a multipurpose structure which will also be used for emergency situations for the community. He concluded that he looks forward to working with the Embassy of Japan in the future.
The ceremony was also attended by the Hon. Eugene Amor, the Secretary of Department of Finance and Administration, the Hon. Marvin Yamaguchi, the Speaker of Pohnpei State Legislature, the Hon. Steven Joseph, Senator, the Hon. Sonster Edger, Senator, U Municipal Government staff, Saladak elementary school principal and members of the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.
