UNDP and Japan Hand Over IT Equipment to Pohnpei State Emergency Operation Center

 On Tuesday 29 March 2022, IT equipment funded by Japan was handed over from UNDP to the Pohnpei State Emergency Operation Center.
 
 The handover ceremony was conducted in the conference room of the Pohnpei Public Safety in Kolonia town, with the presence of the Hon. Reed B. Oliver, Governor of Pohnpei State, H.E. Michigami Hisashi, Ambassador of Japan to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Mr. Kevin Petrini, Deputy Resident Representative, UNDP Pacific Office, Mr. Patrick Carl, Director, Department of Public Safety, among others.
 
 The donation of the IT equipment was a part of the UNDP’s “Enhancing Disaster and Climate Resilience (EDCR)” Project, under way from March 2019 to which Japan committed 7.4 million US Dollars. The EDCR Project aims to enhance disaster and climate resilience in the FSM through improved disaster preparedness and infrastructure.
 
 On behalf of Pohnpei State, Mr. Patrick Carl, Director, Department of Public Safety, explained Japanese continuous cooperation such as provision of patrol boats and ambulances in the past. And he thanked for the donation of the IT equipment to the Pohnpei State Emergency Operation Center.
 
 In his remarks, Ambassador Michigami appreciated the work done by the Pohnpei Public Safety to protect the community safe and explained Japan’s support for the EDCR. He hoped that the IT equipment handed over would further enhance capacities of the Pohnpei State Emergency Operation Center and contribute to the sustainable economic and social development of the FSM.
 
 Mr. Petrini, representing UNDP, joining Ambassador Michigami, thanked Japan for its assistance, and hoped that the IT equipment handed over would further empower the Pohnpei State Emergency Operation Center.
