Handover Ceremony for the Project for Procuring Garbage Trucks in Kolonia Town, Pohnpei State

On March 21, 2022, a Handover Ceremony was held at Kolonia Town Government office in Pohnpei State, for the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan for the Project for Procuring Garbage Trucks in Kolonia Town, Pohnpei State, amounting up to US$177,088.
This project provided two garbage trucks, in order to improve the environment and sanitation by addressing the problems of littering and accumulation of wastes in Kolonia Town. The provided Garbage Trucks are expected to strengthen garbage collection activities, thus improving waste management in Kolonia Town.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Michigami Hisashi mentioned that daily waste management is essential to maintain a clean and safe environment as well as people’s lives. He explained that the new garbage trucks will increase frequency of waste collection in Kolonia Town, benefitting about 6,000 people. He hoped that these garbage trucks will play an important role in protecting the environment of Kolonia Town and Pohnpei state. Followed by his remarks, Ambassador Michigami handed over the symbolic truck key to Kolonia Town Government.
The Hon. Beterigo Jacob, Mayor of Kolonia Town Government, expressed his appreciation to the Government of Japan and all of the staff involved in the completion of the project. He stated that the donation will help waste management in Kolonia Town and he will make sure that the new garbage trucks will be used appropriately. He concluded that he looks forward to working with the Embassy of Japan in the future.
The ceremony was also attended by Ms. Irene P. Albert, Director of Administration, Ms. Malinda Mora, Acting Director of Finance, Mr. Nixon Aldam, Chief Prosecutor, Mr. Antonio Mihkel Jr., Chief of Community Development, other staff from Kolonia Town Government, Mr. Patrick Blank, Executive Director of Micronesian Productions, and members of the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.
