Grant Contract Signing Ceremony for The Project for Procuring a Garbage Truck and a Dump Truck in Sokehs Municipality, Pohnpei State

On January 13, 2022, the signing ceremony for “The Project for Procuring a Garbage Truck and a Dump Truck in Sokehs Municipality, Pohnpei State” was held at the Embassy of Japan to provide Sokehs Municipal Government, in Pohnpei State, with the funds up to US$134,014 under the Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects by the Government of Japan.
This project will provide a garbage truck and a dump truck to support the garbage collection activities of Sokehs Municipal Government, to improve the environment and sanitation addressing the problems of littering and accumulation of wastes in the municipality.
At the ceremony, the Hon. Michael T. Lieman, Chief Magistrate of Sokehs Municipal Government expressed his appreciation for Japan’s assistance, especially to improve and to sustain Sokehs’solid waste management program. He ensures that the new trucks will be maintained well to last the trucks for years.
Ambassador Michigami Hisashi expressed that he was impressed that H.E. David W. Panuelo, President of the FSM and many other people expressed their gratitude for Japan’s long years of assistance. He described that the previous Garbage truck and Dump Truck had broken down and were no longer able to collect wastes. The two new trucks will help Sokehs Municipal Government to increase the frequency of its waste collection from once every two weeks to once a week. He concluded with hopes that this project will proceed smoothly and further help to improve the environment of Sokehs and Pohnpei State.
The ceremony was also attended by other dignities and staff, Sokehs Municipal Government and members of the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.
