On Thursday October 28, 2021, H.E. the Ambassador of Japan and Mrs. Sobashima hosted their farewell reception at their residence. The function was held with the provision of disinfectants, masks, and disposable gloves, enabling the participants to prepare for COVID-19 countermeasures.
In his farewell address, Ambassador Sobashima reflected what happened in his tenure of 2 years in the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) such as President Panuelo’s visit to Japan and the Ninth Pacific Islands Leaders Meeting (PALM9), explained Japan’s support to the FSM to fight COVID-19, the donation from the Japanese community and the information sharing of Japan’s COVID-19 situation, remarked that he had a number of things undone and hoped that further progress would be made under the tenure of his successor Ambassador Michigami and thanked the people in the FSM for their cooperation.

The President expressed his appreciation, with respect to the bilateral relations between Japan and the FSM, for Japan’s support in various fields including COVID-19 and JICA volunteers and stated that the FSM, for its part, would support Japan in various areas including its support for Japan’s candidature for a Permanent Member of the UN Security Council.
