Grant Contract Signing Ceremony for the Project for Procuring a Garbage Truck in Madolenihmw Municipality, Pohnpei State

     On December 13, 2019, the signing ceremony for the Project for Procuring a Garbage Truck in Madolenihmw Municipality, Pohnpei State was held at the Embassy of Japan to provide Madolenihmw Municipal Government, Pohnpei State with the funds up to US$ 89,647 under the Grant Assistance for Grass roots Human Security Project by the Government of Japan.

     This project is the first new project decided to be implemented after the summit meeting between Japan and the Federated States of Micronesia held on the occasion of the visit of President Panuelo to Japan in November, in which Prime Minister Abe stated that Japan would strengthen support for the FSM’s sustainable economic and social development.

     This project will provide a garbage truck, in order to improve the environment and the sanitation against the littering and accumulation of the wastes in the community, and support the garbage collection activities of Madolenihmw Municipal Government. The garbage truck to be provided is expected to strengthen garbage collection activities and to improve the environment and the sanitation in Madolenihmw Municipality.

     At the ceremony, the Hon. Petrick Ringlen, Mayor of Madolenihmw Municipal Government, expressed deep appreciation for Japan's continuous support for the people of Madolenihmw. He stated that Madolenihmw Municipal Government would make sure that the garbage truck provided would be fully utilized and that the beautiful environment would be conserved. Ambassador Sobashima Hidenobu stated that Japan decided to finance the provision of a garbage truck to address the environment problems arising out of littering and accumulation of the wastes in the Municipality, and mentioning that the Garbage Truck would be mobilized to collect wastes from each area of the Municipality every month and the Truck would reduce sizes of the wastes so that it would be able to collect 22 times larger amount of the wastes compared to the current capacity of waste collection, hoped that this project would proceed smoothly and contribute to the improvement of the environment of Madolenihmw.

     The ceremony was attended by the Hon. Petrick Ringlen, Mayor of Madolenihmw Municipal Government, the Hon. Shelten  Neth, Member of the Pohnpei State Legislature, Mr. Henry Susaia, Executive Director of Pohnpei Environmental Protection Agency, Mr. Brad Soram, Specialist of Hearth Moving  of the Agency, Ms. Maioleen Etse, Treasurer of Madolenihmw Municipal Government, Mr. Hernet Ringlen, Revenue Officer and Mr. John Rensle, Public Works official of the Municipal Government, and members of the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.
