Signing Ceremony of Exchange of Notes between Embassy of Japan and FSM

     On July 8, 2015, Signing Ceremony of Exchange of Notes between Embassy of Japan and FSM for procurement services under two Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid (total 400million Japanese Yen: about 3.2million US dollars) was held at the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence. The singers were Ambassador Masaki Sakai ,Embassy of Japan in FSM and The Honorable Lorin S. Robert, Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs in FSM.

     Under a grant scheme called Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid for Disaster Reduction Equipment 2014 (total 300million Japanese Yen: about2.4million US dollars), Embassy of Japan provides FSM with Japan-made equipment for disaster risk management. It is expected to correspond to restoration of disaster areas by natural disasters.

    Under a grant scheme called Japan’s Non-Project Grant Aid 2014, (total 100million Japanese Yen: about 0.8 million US dollars), fuel is provided to FSM from Embassy of Japan. FSM as a recipient country shall deposit the proceeds acquired through a sale of donated fuel as a counterpart fund, which can be utilized for social and economic development of FSM.

    These two grant aid were provided based on the announcement by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe that Japan would provide necessary aid for disaster reduction and climate change at PALM7 in Fukushima on May 22 and 23.

    The event was witnessed by Embassy of Japan Deputy Chief of Mission Shingo Higashimoto, FSM Department of Foreign Affairs Deputy Secretary Samson Pretrick, and staff of Embassy of Japan and DFA.
