Grant Contract Signing Ceremony for the Project for Improving School Environment for Pohnpei Seventh-day Adventist School

  On March 7, 2019, the Grant Contract Signing Ceremony was held at Pohnpei Seventh-day Adventist(SDA) School Gymnasium for the Project for “Improving School Environment for Pohnpei Seventh-day Adventist School”, which provided Pohnpei SDA School with USD$87, 228 under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects.

  This project intends to construct a new restroom, renovate 11 existing restrooms, expand and renovate the Gymnasium. The provided new restroom will have 6 stalls and they are expected to help to improve the sanitation and environment for the students. In addition, the renovation of the Gymnasium will provide a safe educational environment for the students and teachers.

  In his address, His Excellency Ryoichi Horie, the Ambassador of Japan stated that it is his honor to assist the school for the betterment of its environment. He added that Japan has been assisting Pohnpei by providing numerous heavy equipment and assisting the rehabilitation of construction of the infrastructure. He also mentioned that the most important basis for a society towards the future is education.  Pr. Walter John, Pohnpei SDA School Board Chairman expressed his sincere gratitude for the generous donation from the Government and people of Japan. He expressed that this well-equipped gymnasium will created a better school environment. Mr. Hubert Yamada, Pohnpei SDA School PTA President stated that he was honored to be invited to join the special ceremony and conveyed his deepest gratitude to the Ambassador and Japanese government. Ms. Mermy Jeanette Yamada, Pohnpei SDA School Student Body President, expressed her sincere appreciation to the people of Japan. Mr. Alexander Chang, the teacher and the Grant Initiator of Pohnpei SDA School, stated that the process of creating this project and it’s his pleasure to attend this ceremony just before leaving the FSM.

  The ceremony was witnessed by the board members of Pohnpei SDA School, the PTA officers of Pohnpei SDA School, Mr. Franky Edward, the principal of Pohnpei SDA School, teachers, staff and students of Pohnpei SDA School and the staff of the Embassy of Japan in the FSM.
