Handover ceremony for Procuring Ambulance in Pohnpei State

On August 07, 2019, a handover ceremony was held at the Department of Public Safety, Pohnpei State for the Project for Procuring Ambulance in Pohnpei State which provided the Department of Public Safety – Division of Fire & Emergency Services, Pohnpei State with US$67,823 under Japan’s Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects.
This project has provided a four-wheel drive Ambulance to improve emergency medical response services and to reach anywhere on the island for treating and transporting patients/injured individuals to the hospital. The vehicle will be also used in schools and community awareness programs to ensure safety.
In his address, Mr. Taro Kono, Minister for Foreign Affairs in Japan expressed his delight for the completion of this project which will contribute to enhance the access to medical assistance to the people of Pohnpei. He also mentioned that last year marked the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and the FSM. He stated that all the donations from Japan are a symbol of Japan and the FSM strong ties in the future.
The Hon. Marcelo K. Peterson, Governor of Pohnpei State expressed his deepest gratitude for the variety of continuous support from Japan to Pohnpei State. He also emphasized that the bond between FSM and Japan is a role that holds the two countries together as friends.
Mr. Benito Cantero, Director of Public Safety, acknowledged the generous grant from the people of Japan to the FSM. He also emphasized that the provided ambulance will result in better response to emergency situations.
The event was witnessed by Pohnpei State Senator McGarry Miguel, Deputy Secretary of FSM Foreign Affairs the Hon. Samson Pretrick, Ambassador of the FSM Embassy in Japan H.E. John Fritz, Acting Director of Health Mr. Johnny Hadley Jr, Director of Land and Natural Resources Mr. Bernie Martin, staff of Pohnpei State government, Department of Public Safety and the visiting delegation from Japan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy staff.
