Grant Contract Signing Ceremony for the Project for “Oil leakage countermeasures project for World War II Wrecks in Truk Lagoon Marine Area, Federated States of Micronesia (Phase2)”

On May 23 2018, the grant contract signing ceremony, between Mr. Ryoichi Horie, Ambassador to the federated states of Micronesia and Mr. Kiyoshi Inoue, Japan Mine Action Service Resident Representative of the project was held for the Project “Oil leakage countermeasures project for World War II Wrecks in Truk Lagoon Marine Area, Federated States of Micronesia (Phase2)” which provided Japan Mine Action Service (JMAS) with US$891,867.
The objective of this project is the environmental conservation in Truk Lagoon where the oil leakage from Japanese corroded and degraded ships which were sunken during the World War II is concerned. Before taking emergency treatments for the oil leakage, JMAS assess the current situation of the shipwrecks carefully. This project is scheduled to be implemented for a total of 3 years, and will be on its second year(Phase 2) in this year.
Ambassador Horie encouraged Mr. Inoue, Resident Representative of the project, to achieve the outcome of the project continuing from last year while considering safety.
In response, Mr. Inoue stated that he would like to work hard for the good result.
