Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding on the use of Excavator between PWMS and EPA On July 24, 2015, Signing Ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the use of excavator between Pohnpei State Environment Protection Agency (EPA) and Pohnpei Waste Management Services (PWMS) was held at the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence. Under a grant scheme called Non-Project Grant Aid, Embassy of Japan provides the Pohnpei State Government with three (3) excavators. Of which an excavator will be allotted for the use at the Pohnpei State Dumpsite. The purpose of this MOU is to establish the arrangements that will provide for the meaningful cooperation between EPA and PWMS on operation and management of the excavator at the Pohnpei State Dumpsite. At the ceremony, Ambassador Masaki Sakai emphasized importance of waste management in the Federated State of Micronesia and introduced a variety of waste management projects implemented in this country with support from the Japanese government. He expressed his expectation for EPA and PWMS that they will fully utilize the excavator and make continuous efforts to improve waste management system in Pohnpei. The event was witnessed by Acting Governor Marcelo Peterson, EPA Executive Director Albert Roby, and staff of PWMS and Embassy.
