Handover Ceremony of the Project for Procuring Garbage Trucks in Kitti Municipality

    On October 9, 2015, a handover ceremony was held in the Kitti Municipality for the Project for Procuring Garbage Trucks in Kitti Municipality, Pohnpei State, which provided US$35,441 for the Kitti Municipal Government under Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects. The aim for this project is to improve the environment and the sanitation in the community by supporting the Kitti Municipal Government to conduct garbage collection activities in villages.

    At the handover ceremony, the Government of Japan handed over a compacting truck to the Kitti Municipal Government. Preceded the handover ceremony, under the auspices of Japanese engineer dispatched from manufactory of vehicle provided, a one-week training on safety operation and maintenance of compacting truck was held in Kitti Municipality. Staff of the Kitti Municipal Government, the Sokehs Municipal Government, the Kolonia Town Government, the U Municipal Government, and the Nett Municipal Government participated in the training.

    In his speech during the ceremony, Ambassador Masaki Sakai presented his remarks hoping that granted garbage truck will be long utilized to clean up the municipality. He also called for active involvement by the community to develop a sanitized community.  Representing the Kitti Municipal Government, Mayor Tony Sarapio acknowledged Ambassador for the generous grant. He also stated that the vehicle will help promoting tourism in the island.

    Present at the ceremony were a traditional leader, a state legislator, trainers and trainees, and the embassy staffs.
