Signing Ceremony for the Grant Aid for “Economic and Social Development Programme”
2019/4/25

On April 22, 2019, the Exchange of Notes for the Grant Aid for Economic and Social Development Programme was signed by His Excellency Ryoichi Horie, Ambassador of Japan to the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and The Hon. Lorin S. Robert, Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs, in Palikir.
Through this 500 million Japanese Yen grant (equivalent to 4.5 million USD), a variety of security equipment such as X-ray detectors and metal detectors will be procured for the Airports, Sea Ports and Post Offices in each of the FSM states . Currently, the Airports, Seaports and Post offices in each state do not have enough security equipment so this assistance is expected to improve the FSM’s security and safety.
In his address, Ambassador Horie stated that he is very glad that he is able to sign the Notes during his tenure because after spending almost three years in the FSM, he has felt that the security systems in the FSM can be improved from the current conditions they are in.
Secretary Robert expressed his appreciation for the continuous assistance from the Government of Japan. He also mentioned that improvement of the security systems is crucial for the FSM and the security equipment which will be procured under this assistance will secure the people of the FSM.
The ceremony was witnessed by Mrs. Ginger Mida, Postmaster General, Mr. Samson E. Pretrick, Deputy Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs, officials of the ODA office, staff of the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Japan.
