Ambassador Sakai visited Kosrae State, met Governor Lieutenant Governor, Vice Speaker and State Legislature and made a KIZUNA speech at the schools

Ambassador Sakai and his wife made the second official visit to Kosrae State during November 2 and 7. Ambassador exchanged views over Japan’s development assistance to the state with Governor Mr. Jackson, Lieutenant Governor Mr. Sigrah and Vice Speaker Mr. Taulung and made a speech at the State Legislature on Japan’s Aid Policy including activities of JICA volunteers and waste management projects. Profound gratitude for the Japan’s assistance and strong desire for further aid were expressed with the introduction of a worsening state budget situation : Donation of excavators and Malem elemantary school multipurpose center project were exemplified as specific measures in recent years. Ambassador Sakai also met National Congress members, Mr. Alik and Mr. Welly, both of whom were elected from Kosrae state.

In this visit, Ambassador Sakai went to all the elementary and high schools in Kosrae state and Community College of Micronesia Kosrae campus and made a speech titled KIZUNA, Japan&FSM, in which he introduced Japanese culture, life, tradition and variety of features in Japan such as a national flower SAKURA, a national sport SUMO and Tokyo Olympics. Ambassador also explained Japan’s development assistance and received an enthusiastic and warm welcome in many schools.
