Japan and COM-FSM Soccer Field Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

On March 20, 2015 Ambassador Masaki Sakai handed over to COM-FSM a quality, all-purpose field for playing sports such as soccer and other field sports as well as other health promoting activities. The field was constructed by a grant in the amount of US$120,569 under Japan’s Grassroots Human Security Projects called the Project for Prevention of NCD in Sokehs Municipality, Pohnpei State.
The main basis of this project is to prepare a soccer field to address Non-Communicable Disease (NCD) such as obesity, hypertension, and diabetes. These diseases could otherwise be prevented if the appropriate means of prevention were practiced. The field can be resources of promoting healthy lifestyles through activities such as walking, jogging, running or playing outdoor sports.
The Hon. Governor Ehsa gave remarks on behalf of Pohnpei State Government, expressing thanks to the Government of Japan and that they will encourage utilizing the soccer field. Following Governor Ehsa’s remarks, President Joseph M. Daisy of COM-FSM stated that this funding helped them established an athletic field that will address the academic health crisis on the island of Pohnpei and that the athletic field represent our shared vision and promise. Finally Ambassador Sakai remarked that he hopes that this project will be of great use to the entire community.

FSM Chairman Board of Regents and staff of COM-FSM and Embassy of Japan.
