Reception for the Birthday of H.M. Emperor of Japan

On December 5, 2014, the Embassy of Japan celebrated H.M. Emperor of Japan’s birthday at Ambassador Sakai’s residence. Officials from the FSM National Government, Pohnpei State Government, as well as various sectors were present at this significant occasion. The celebration began with a beautiful accordion performance accompanying national anthems of both countries by Ms. Noriko Lopez and Mr. Tsuneaki Sato, Second Secretary of the Embassy of Japan, singing the Japanese Anthem.
Ambassador Masaki Sakai thanked everyone presented there for their sincere friendship and kindness and invited all to enjoy the delicious food and desserts prepared by his chef. Japanese sake and wine were introduced for the first time and were a great hit with the guests. The Ambassador remarked the great turnout of the Japan Festival which was held on October 26 of this year and stated that “through these human to human exchanges, precious moments are shared and enjoyed”.
Remarks were also delivered by Mr. Samson Pretrick, DeputySecretary of the FSM Dept. of Foreign Affairs, representing the FSM Government, in which he expressed his most sincere gratitude to Ambassador Sakai and congratulated both the FSM and Japan on the 26th Anniversary of bilateral relations. He remarked that though 26 years is young, FSM and Japan will continue to support each other side by side to tackle the challenges ahead. Deputy Secretary Pretrick thanked the Ambassador for this auspicious occasion and conveyed FSM’s continued commitment to further strengthening its close relations in pursuit of its shared aspirations.
H.M. Emperor Akihito is the 125th Emperor of Japan, and he acceded the throne on January 7th, 1989 upon the demise of H.M. Emperor Hirohito. H.M. Emperor will turn 81 on December 23rd, 2014 and to this day is very active in His Majesty’s official duties.
