The Senior-Vice Minister for Foreign Affairs Shunichi Suzuki visited Federated States of Micronesia on September 7th and 8th, 2013. During his stay, Mr. Suzuki paid a courtesy call on President Emmanuel Mori, and held a Bilateral meeting with Secretary Lorin Robert of Department of Foreign Affairs. He also witnessed signing ceremonies; one for “The Project for Upgrading the Road from Utwe to Walung,” another for “The Project for Procuring Mobile Clinic Car for Chuuk State Hospital” that were held at the Department of Foreign Affairs in Palikir and in addition a handing over ceremony for “The Project for Pohnpei Catholic School Construction of Three-Classroom Building”; all of which were granted under Japan’s grassroots grant aid.

He also visited a few Japanese ODA sites including the Caroline Voyager which was anchored at Pohnpei’s Dekehtik seaport and Pohnpei State’s dumpsite, a large portion of which was transformed into semi-aerobic landfill by the “Fukuoka Method” under the J-PRISM Project (Japan Promotion of Regional Initiative Solid Management).

Among various places Mr.Suzuki visited was the Nan Madol ruins, which Japan is working with FSM Government toward its registration as a World Heritage site, and finally stopped at the memorial statue at the Spanish Wall to offer flowers to honor the Japanese who lost their lives in Pohnpei before and during the World War II.
