The Project for Pohnpei Catholic School Construction of Three-Classrooms Building

On 30th August, the Ambassador of Japan to FSM, His Excellency Mr. Eiichi Suzuki signed a grant contract agreement with Mr. Staylor Elidok, Principal of Pohnpei Catholic School, under theGrant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects for “The Project for Pohnpei Catholic School Construction of Three-Classrooms Building” in the amount of $115,161 USD.

The aim of the grant is to enable the school to construct three new classrooms and provide 93 sets of desks and chairs to those classrooms. The new buildings will belong to the middle school students, from 6th to 8th grade. Pohnpei Catholic School plans to add one more class for each of the lower grades from Kindergarten to 2nd grade.

Ambassador Suzuki remarked that he “hopes these new classrooms will be places of learning and growing for all the potential students of the Pohnpei Catholic School.” Mr. Staylor Elidok, Principal of Pohnpei Catholic School emphasized his heartfelt and warm welcome to the Ambassador and his staff as he expressed his gratitude towards the Japanese Government for their generous support to their school. “This day truly is an important day in the history of PCS.” He mentioned how it is not often that they receive foreign dignitaries on their campus, so the visit was an honor for the Pohnpei Catholic School.

The ceremony ended with a beautiful song by the staff and children of PCS, and closing
prayer was done by the religion teacher, Sister Sophie.
