Handover Ceremony for the Project for Procuring Medical Waste Incinerator in Yap State

  On September 27 2019, a handover ceremony for the “Project for Procuring Medical Waste Incinerator in Yap State” was held at Yap State Hospital. For this project, $61,640 was donated to the Yap Department of Health Services (DHS) under the Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects to install a medical waste incinerator at Yap State Hospital. This project will guarantee the safety of the hospital building as well as proper incineration of hospital waste.
 
  In his address, Mr. Dominic Taruwemai, Deputy Director of the DHS expressed his appreciation for the generous donation from the Government of Japan. Mr. Sugiyama, Charge d‘Affaires ad interim, stated that the new incinerator will benefit the people of Yap through improvement of medical waste management. He also encouraged the hospital staff to conduct proper maintenance so that the donated equipment will last longer. After the ribbon cutting by the representatives of each organization, hospital staff explained the usage of the incinerator to Mr. Sugiyama.
 
  The representatives of the DHS, Yap State Hospital, and JICA senior volunteers witnessed the ceremony.
