Tokyo Roppongi Rotary Club gives to COM-FSM National Campus
It was a happy occasion on March 20, 2013 that Tokyo Roppongi Rotary Club presented to the College of Micronesia-FSM National Campus (COM-FSM) assorted supplies for the Japanese Language Program. The Tokyo Roppongi Rotary club, with advice from the Embassy of Japan, selected the College to be the proper institute to receive the donations. In remarks given by H.E Eiichi Suzuki, Ambassador of Japan in the FSM, he stated that the donation is very “timely” since the College has been experiencing budgetary cuts.
Representing the Rotary Club, Mr. Masayuki Matsushima also imparted some remarks. He stated that this was a significant event, and shared his hopes that the donation of these materials will give students the desire to learn more about Japan. In addition, he stated that he hoped that this donation will further strengthen the relationship between Japan and FSM.
Mr. Jim Currie, who represented the College, conveyed his gratitude and appreciation for being the recipient of this significant donation. Mr. Currie is the Vice President for Cooperative Research & Extension at the College.
Ms. Akiko Kamikubo, the Japanese Language Instructor at the College, along with her students, treated the audience with three impressive songs sung in both English and Japanese. One of her students gave a remarkable speech in Japanese to show their gratitude for the donations.
The ceremony was witnessed by the five key members of the Tokyo Roppongi Rotary Club, COM-FSM staff, students, and Embassy staff.
