Kochi Prefecture-Micronesia Friendship Tour visits FSM
On October 19th, 2013, the chartered flight from Kochi prefecture arrived in Pohnpei International Airport with 84 visitors on board.
Speaker of Pohnpei State Legislature, The Honorable Peter Lohn, Senator of Pohnpei State, Mr. Aurelio P. Joab, and two others flew to Kochi prefecture to board the chartered flight along with other visitors. The group was warmly welcomed by high ranking government officials including Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs, The Honorable Lorin Robert, Lt. Governor of Pohnpei, The Honorable Marcelo Peterson, and Ambassador of Japan, Mr.Eiichi Suzuki. On the night of the arrival, they attended a welcoming dinner organized by Pohnpei State at Cupid’s Bar & Grill.
About 30 people from the group paid courtesy call to President Mori on October 20th. Among the members were Vice-Governor of the Kochi Prefecture, Mr. Takaaki Iwaki, Chairman of the Kochi Prefecture Assembly, Mr. Eiji Morita, Deputy Mayor of Kochi City, Mr. Shigemitsu Nakajima, Chairman of the Kochi-Micronesia Friendship Association, Mr Masaharu Doi. President Mori stated that he was deeply delighted to see more Japanese visitors coming to the FSM following the Rainbownesia Project of last year, and he has special feeling toward this chartered flight.
In the afternoon of October 20th, the guests attended the Japan Festival organized by Embassy of Japan in the FSM to celebrate the 25th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relationship between the two countries. At the festival, the crowd enjoyed the singing performance by the Japanese language students of College of Micronesia, two Japanese traditional dances by the local elementary school students, and many other attractions.
In the evening, they were invited to a welcome dinner at the Gymnasium of College of Micronesia National Campus, which was co-hosted by Mori family in Pohnpei and Japan-FSM Friendship Association. The visitors spent a blissful time with the hosts enjoying local dances performed by young adults and children as well as delicious homemade cooking prepared by members of the Mori family.
Some of the passengers extended their trip to Chuuk State to meet the Mori family residing there, and to visit a few historical sites of Mori Koben on Weno and Dublon Island. About 300 people including the Mori family from Chuuk islands gathered on the night of 22nd to interact and to share memorable moments with the Japanese guests.
The group departed Pohnpei International Airport for Kochi Ryoma Airport with good memories and many smiles on October 23rd. The departing ceremony was witnessed by the Speaker, The Honorable Lohn, Lt. Governor, The Honorable Marcelo Peterson, Mr. Ambassador Suzuki and many others.
