Japan Festival

On 16 February 2013, a Japan-themed Festival was held by the Japanese Embassy in Pohnpei, FSM in celebration of the 25th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the FSM and Japan.


This half-day event was filled with many performances and activities that offered a little glimpse of Japanese culture.

 

The festival was opened with a traditional tea ceremony by Mrs. Suzuki, wife of the Ambassador having Mr. and Mrs. Pretrick, Deputy Secretary of Department of Foreign Affairs, as main guests, along with a beautiful Koto performance.  Other performances such as martial arts, sushi demonstration, and Eisa, a traditional Okinawan folk dance, the Great East Earthquake charity song with dance were also demonstrated. Small booths for activities such as games and calligraphy, and snacks were also set up for the guests’ enjoyment.

 

FSM President Emanuel Mori, Deputy Secretary of Dept. of Foreign Affairs Mr. Samson Pretrick, his wife, and US Ambassador Doria Rosen were among the 500 people who attended this exciting event.
