The First English teacher for Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme (JET) from the FSM going to
Ishigaki Okinawa



      Ms. Hannah - Mary Isaac, the first participant from FSM, paid a courtesy call on Ambassador Suzuki on July 26th 2012. The Japanese Exchange and Teaching Programme(JET) aims for taking root in communities and promoting international exchange between Japan and other nations. This program's purpose is to develop strong relationships with local communities through foreign language education and international exchange activities.
     

Ms. Isaac will be dispatched to Ishigaki island of Okinawa prefecture as an assistant of English education in high school, and will be teaching Japanese students for two years from August 2012.

 

Ambassador Suzuki encouraged Ms. Isaac to not only teach English but also introduce culture
of the FSM. Ambassador mentioned that there were many Japanese people who immigrated from Okinawa
to Micronesia even before WWII, and there are many descendants who still remaining here. Ms.
Isaac conveyed to Ambassador Suzuki that she is going to experience and learn as much as possible
in the next two years to achieve her dream in becoming a teacher in the FSM.
