On August 23, 2017, the grand opening ceremony was held for the Project for Expansion of Preschool Building for United Church of Christ in Pohnpei Preschool in Pohnpei State which provided US$176,277 under Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects. The objectives of this project are to promote children’s welfare and to improve the environment for early childhood education through expansion of a preschool building. UCCP Preschool will start on August 24, and with the provided building more children are expected to register than last year.

In his address, His Excellency Ryoichi Horie, Ambassador of Japan, expressed his delight for opening the new building from tomorrow and stated this place was the most impressive place by the memory playing with the children at the hand-over ceremony in February. Rev. Bethwel Henry, President of UCCP Council, acknowledged Embassy of Japan for the continued support and expressed his gladness for being able to do many things with the new building. Mr. Jack Yakana, Administrator, Department of Transportation & Infrastructure, Pohnpei state, expressed, on behalf of Pohnpei State, his deep appreciation for Japanese government’s long term support by a variety of programs. After the remarks, Ambassador Horie, Madam Horie and UCCP staffs dedicated a thoughtful song each other.
