Japan’s Grant for Community Development
-Grass-roots Human Security Project-
Kolonia, Pohnepi. The long awaited project is now ready to kick off. On March 2nd, at the Embassy’s conference room, Ambassador Sato of the Embassy of Japan to the F.S.M. and Pwihn Keisu Community leader, Podis Pedrus has signed the Grant Contract for “Building the Pwihn Keisu Community Hall” in the amount of US$ 88,493 under the Japan’s Grass-roots Human Security scheme.

This is a long awaited project for people of Pwihn Keisu Community of Madolenihnw. Pwihn Keisu community, also known as Mand community, was longing for having their own community hall being able for all people to access freely and comfortably through a year, without a boarders of religious differences or various migration groups. Community activities have been actively held such as Island Food Community’s workshops for health issues and a mobile clinic arranged by the government’s health team. People of Pwihn Keisu are very energetic and motivated that they are planning to explore more activities by having own community hall when the project will be completed in a year.

On behalf of the Community, Mr.Podis delivered his appreciation to realize this project for the local people to get the direct benefit.
This is the last project that the Embassy of Japan funded under the Grass-roots Human Security scheme, out of 6 projects in total, for the Japan’s Fiscal Year 2008 (end on March 31, 2009).
